Dangote Begins Deployment of 4,000 CNG Trucks for Nationwide Fuel Supply

Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals has started taking delivery of 4,000 compressed natural gas (CNG)-powered trucks ahead of the official launch of its new fuel distribution programme on August 15.

Valued at about ₦720 billion, the trucks are expected to cut transportation costs, enhance delivery efficiency, and modernise Nigeria’s downstream fuel network. The first set, brought in through Apapa Port, was received at the Ibeju-Lekki refinery by the company’s Vice-President for Oil and Gas, Devakumar Edwin, in the presence of staff and customers.

Group Chief of Branding and Communication, Anthony Chiejina, hailed the project as a major breakthrough for fuel distribution in the country, noting that it combines cleaner technology with improved operational efficiency.

Over the next six weeks, around 60 more shipments of these trucks will arrive. The company projects annual savings of over ₦1.7 trillion in fuel distribution costs, with significant benefits for more than 42 million small and medium-scale businesses through reduced energy expenses.

The initiative will also create over 15,000 direct jobs, revitalise idle filling stations, curb cross-border fuel smuggling, and reduce emissions—part of Dangote’s broader goal to improve energy security, eliminate transport bottlenecks, and drive sustainable growth in Nigeria’s petroleum sector.
