The Young Professionals Forum of Nigeria (YPFN) has formally petitioned the Saudi Arabian Embassy in Abuja to deny visa access to former Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) Group CEO, Mallam Mele Kyari, amid ongoing corruption investigations.
Led by Barrister Sambari Benjamin, the forum’s Convener, and Comrade John Ndubuokwu, the Organizing Secretary, over 1,000 members, including lawyers, doctors, engineers, and artisans, handed the petition to embassy officials on Thursday.
Addressing journalists, Sambari explained the forum’s proactive stance: “We have received indications that preliminary investigations into Kyari’s tenure may be underway. There are concerns he might seek to stay abroad to avoid or delay official processes in Nigeria.”
The petition urged Saudi authorities to “deny Kyari entry under any guise—diplomatic, medical, religious, or commercial—and to cooperate with Nigerian anti-corruption agencies to uphold justice.”
The group emphasized Saudi Arabia’s role as a leader of the Muslim Ummah, stating, “Saudi Arabia reaffirms its unyielding stance against corruption, economic sabotage, and terrorism by distancing itself from characters like Mele Kyari.”
In recent weeks, Nigerians in the UK protested outside the Nigerian House in London, demanding Kyari return home to face allegations.
Barrister Sambari concluded, “As patriotic citizens and advocates for transparency, we call on the Kingdom to assist in ensuring that no one escapes due process, reinforcing international cooperation against corruption.”
