Oluremi Tinubu Inaugurates 50 CNG Buses, Launches N1bn Edo Empowerment Scheme

First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has inaugurated 50 compressed natural gas (CNG) buses and launched a N1bn empowerment programme for 5,000 beneficiaries in Edo State.

The initiatives were unveiled on Thursday in Benin City alongside Governor Monday Okpebholo, who said they were designed to improve public transportation and provide financial support for residents, particularly women and small-business owners.

Under the empowerment scheme, 5,000 beneficiaries will receive N200,000 each to support their businesses, strengthen their livelihoods and improve their financial independence.

Tinubu commended the state government for introducing the programmes, expressing hope that the financial assistance would help recipients expand their businesses and improve their economic circumstances.

She said the initiatives could create opportunities for women, young people and vulnerable groups while contributing to economic growth across the state.

The 50 CNG buses are expected to make public transportation more accessible and affordable for residents. The vehicles also offer an alternative to conventional petrol- and diesel-powered buses.

Speaking at the event, Okpebholo said the projects addressed two important needs in the state: affordable transportation and economic support for small businesses.

He explained that the buses would improve public transport services, while the empowerment programme would help beneficiaries sustain and expand their economic activities.

The governor also stressed the importance of supporting women financially, noting that empowering women could improve the welfare of families and contribute to community development.

Okpebholo thanked President Bola Tinubu for his administration’s support and reaffirmed his commitment to expanding development opportunities across Edo State.

He said his government would continue pursuing policies aimed at improving living standards, supporting businesses and ensuring that development benefits residents across the state.
